Offline distribution

Most children Meskot serves cannot count on internet access or steady electricity. So the lessons travel offline: on USB drives, on DVDs and through SolarSPELL digital libraries, to schools and community centers.

Why offline

Online lessons only reach children who are online.

In much of Tigray, internet access is unreliable or missing, and electricity is unreliable. A lesson that needs a connection does not reach the children who most need it.

Meskot shares its lessons online where there is internet, and works with schools, families and community centers to make the same lessons easy to use offline.

How lessons travel

Three ways to carry a lesson where the internet can't.

USB drives
Lessons copied onto USB drives play on a television or computer, with no connection. New lessons arrive by updating the drive.
DVDs
Lessons on disc, for schools and community centers with a DVD player.
SolarSPELL digital libraries
Digital libraries that work without internet, used in schools and community centers to hold Meskot's lessons.

Where lessons are used

In places that already serve children.

The lessons are used in schools, community centers and homes. Teachers use them alongside their own teaching, and children use them to practise at their own pace.

The route Meskot can follow: Offline Learning Corners

When lessons travel on a USB drive or DVD, Meskot rarely learns what happens next.

An Offline Learning Corner closes that gap. It sits inside an existing school or community site, with a television, the lessons on USB drives, printed materials and a local teacher who keeps records of attendance and of which lessons are used.

Those records show which children come, which lessons they watch and how often: a monitoring loop that individual distribution cannot provide.
