Who we are and where we work.
What is Meskot Education?
Meskot Education is a charitable nonprofit, registered in Ethiopia and the United States, that helps children in Tigray learn, with good lessons in their own language that reach them with or without internet. It makes curriculum-aligned video lessons with local teachers, in Tigrinya, and makes them available online and offline: on USB drives, on DVDs and through SolarSPELL digital libraries.
Is Meskot Education a school?
No. Meskot Education is a charitable nonprofit organization, not a school or academic institution. We develop educational resources and work with teachers, schools, and communities to help children learn, wherever access to good education is limited.
Where is Meskot Education based?
Meskot Education is based in Mekelle, Tigray, in Ethiopia, and is also registered in the United States, with an address in Reno, Nevada. Its work is for children in Tigray from kindergarten to grade 8.
How the work works
From the curriculum to children, with or without internet.
How does Meskot's model work?
Meskot works with experienced local teachers to turn the approved curriculum of the Tigray education system into video lessons in Tigrinya. The lessons are shared online where there is internet, and offline where there is not, so that children can use them in schools, community centers and Offline Learning Corners.
What is an Offline Learning Corner?
A shared learning space hosted inside an existing school or community center. It is a program Meskot supports, not a Meskot school.
Each corner has a television playing Meskot's Tigrinya video lessons from USB drives, printed worksheets and exercise books, and a local teacher who guides small groups by grade, helps children choose lessons and keeps records of attendance and lesson use. Meskot provides the lessons and equipment, trains the teacher and follows up; the host provides the space and helps identify the children who most need it.
Where is the first Offline Learning Corner?
At Adikentibay Complete Primary School in Shire, for about 100–150 children, many of them from displaced families. Meskot supports the program; it does not run the school. In May 2026, about 100 community members took part in a community orientation and 13 teachers were trained.
Do children need the internet to use the lessons?
No. Offline, the lessons play from USB drives and DVDs, and through SolarSPELL digital libraries. No internet, subscription or special software is needed, and new lessons arrive by updating the USB drives.

Meskot Education is registered in Ethiopia and in the United States.
Is Meskot Education a registered nonprofit?
Yes. In Ethiopia, Meskot Education is a registered civil society organization, Registry No. 5476, under the Organization of Civil Societies Proclamation No. 1113/2019. In the United States, Meskot Education Inc is a 501(c)(3) public charity, EIN 38-4273390.

How to give, and what your gift supports.
How can I give to Meskot Education?
You can give online from anywhere, once or monthly, on our Donate page. In Ethiopia, you can also give by bank transfer to one of Meskot Education's accounts; please include your name and contact details, and say if the gift is for a particular purpose.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Gifts from donors in the United States are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, because Meskot Education is a 501(c)(3) public charity. If you give from another country, the rules where you live apply.
Is giving online secure?
Yes. Your online gifts are secure.
How will my gift be used?
Gifts support Meskot's work: producing video lessons with local teachers; supporting teachers and facilitators; distributing lessons offline on USB drives and DVDs; setting up SolarSPELL digital libraries; running Offline Learning Corners and monitoring how lessons are used; working with communities.
Can I choose how my gift is used?
Unrestricted gifts let Meskot put funds where they are most needed. If you would like your gift used for something specific, contact us to discuss it.
Will I receive a receipt?
Yes. For online gifts, a receipt is emailed to you as soon as your gift goes through. For bank transfers in Ethiopia, Meskot Education sends you a receipt once the transfer arrives, so please make sure your contact details are included.

How can I get involved?
You can express interest in volunteering with the Adikentibay Offline Learning Corner, where volunteering is just beginning; partner with Meskot as a school, community, organization or funder; contribute your skills as an educator or professional; or tell others about the work.
