Hiyabu Desta

Board Chair & Supervidor

Hiyabu has over ten years of experience working with high-tech companies and a proven track record of successfully helping organizations to grow faster.

With a background in Electrical Engineering and as a founder of Electromechanical Engineering PLC, a successful start-up, Hiyabu brings an entrepreneurial mindset driven by his unwavering need to contribute to his community.

Hiyabu has been working for Ethiopian Electric Utility Corporation (EEUC) as Head of the Addis Ababa light railway electric supply coordination office. He has hands-on experience in a number of our industry verticals and in several functional areas — from operations to management to finance.

He possesses extensive experience in designing, maintaining, implementing, or improving electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial or domestic purposes; performing a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment while working at the EEUC.

This rich background of experience will help us to break the mold on how Meskot approach working with partners, making us the perfect team.

Hiyabu will advise our internal teams on strategy, process and methodology decisions. His love for community work is second only to his desire to see talented people be able to work in an environment that lets them do the best work to contribute and have a strong positive impact on the communities we support.

He is also a board member of the Ethiopian Standard Agency, helping in Ethiopia’s Electrical Standard development process.

As the Chair of the Board, Hiyabul presides at all meetings of the Board and the Executive Committee and acts as a liaison between the Board and the President/CEO to help ensure the Board’s directives and resolutions are carried out, and exercise and perform such other powers and duties as may be from time to time prescribed by the Board.
